Who Hires Nursing School Graduates?
Nursing school graduates find employment in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, private practices, clinics, nursing homes, hospice care, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, schools and universities. As a nursing graduate your employment options will depend largely on your degree and the level of your specialization. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were approximately 2.5 million Registered Nurses working in the U.S. in 2006, making nursing the largest occupation in healthcare. Nearly 60 percent of these nurses were employed in hospitals; significant numbers also worked in physicians’ offices, home healthcare services, nursing facilities, employment services and outpatient care centers. A smaller percentage held jobs working for government agencies, and providing social assistance and educational services.
