Who here has taken Abilify?
I’ve taken it on and off again for 3 years now. It is the best anti-psychotic pill as far as you don’t gain much weight from it and it has a lower risk of TDK and EPS happening to you. I don’t care to take it, because I am unable to read as well as when I am not on it and it tends to make me feel depressed (as opposed to manic induced euphoria). I’d much rather take it than Zyprexa which caused me to gain 30lbs in 2 months.
I took Abilify for a few months, and it did really quite well for me. The only side effect that I had from it was headaches which went away completely after taking it for a week or so. I have been diagnosed with a mood regulation disorder and possibly bipolar. The only reason why I stopped taking Abilify was because my doctors felt like Lithium and Lamictal would be more beneficial to me.
I can’t remember what side effects I got from the Abilify, but it seemed to be helping my bipolar mixed moods state quite a bit, and I had tried like 20 drugs before Abilify. Unfortunately, after 8 days or so, I developed an allergy to it and can’t take it anymore. It was really promising, though.
My husband was given Abilify for his Bipolar disorder. I know it made him sleepy and tired all the time. It is primary to treat psychosis- he has auditory and visual hallucinations- and it works well for that, but it did made him a little bit more depressed. Not a good thing. But every person is different, don’t rule out any medication until you’ve tried it out for at least 4 weeks. What doesn’t work for others, might work for you. Good Luck!
It was given to my grandfather who is an Alzheimer/dementia patient. He contracted side affects from it and it hasn’t been good. He can’t walk at all anymore, his muscles are atrophying, it really made him worse off than he was. My aunt got him taken off of it as soon as she could, but as I understand, the side effects are long lasting…
