Who has to take the Hunter Education course?
Hunter Education training is mandatory for any person born after January 1, 1972, before they can purchase any resident or non-resident Mississippi hunting license. Also, effective July 1, 2000: • Anyone twelve (12) years of age and under sixteen (16) years of age must have a certificate of satisfactory completion of a Hunter Education course approved by the department before hunting in this state. • Anyone under the age of twelve (12) must be in the presence and under the direct supervision of a licensed or exempt hunter at least twenty-one (21) years of age when the child is hunting. The course is also required in almost every other state depending on a person’s age. Sportsmen may take the course voluntarily to enhance their knowledge of new and revised wildlife management regulations and practices even though they are not required to do so.
