Who has ever seen a cherry blossom tree?
I have seen many because i used to grow and sell them to homeowners. Flowering cherry trees are from the Genus “Prunus” and are related to regular cherries, plums, apricots, and peaches that we eat. Most flowering cherry trees were hybridized by the Japanese many years ago. These trees only grow in the temperate climates where there has to be some cool season. You could never see one in a tropical climate. If you live in a temperate climate then you probably seen many but never recognized it. Here are two of my favorites: Kwanzan: large double pink flowers, and very popular with homeowners in the USA and Canada. Mt. Fuji: Large beautiful white flowers that hang down in clusters. One of the most popular in Japan. There are hundreds of varieties. Some have white flowers, some pink. Some trees have a beautiful dark red bark that peels, Some are weeping trees that are grafted on another kind of cherry tree. This is seen commonly in the USA.
