Who had William Tyndale executed and why?
You are correct, Seeker: Tyndale was an impeccable Christian and Bible translator. He fled England for Germany, where he then translated Bibles and had them smuggled into England. Unlike Wycliffe, who translated from the erroneous Latin, he used the Greek. To the papal claim that the church had given the Bible, and the church alone could explain it, Tyndale responded, “Do you know who taught the eagles to find their prey? That same God teaches his hungry children to find their Father in his Word. Far from having given us the Scriptures, it is you who have hidden them from us; it is you who burn those who teach them; and if you could, you would burn the Scriptures themselves.” Like John the Baptist, Tyndale spoke against sin, and condemned the King of England of unlawful marriage. So Tyndale escaped the Catholic executioners to fall prey to a Protestant King.
