Who goes to the County Assembly and Convention?
Delegates to the Assembly are elected based on their candidate preference for the highest contested office falling under Colorado rules. This year, that office is the US Senate. The notion of candidate preference comes from the traditional principle that lower-level candidates should be led by the most senior candidate in each party; and the way to ensure compatible policies among them is to have supporters of the senior candidate also nominate candidates for the junior offices. Conventions are separate because their delegates are always determined by candidate preference for president of the United States. Often the Assembly delegates are the same people who also serve as Convention delegates, but this does not have to be the case, especially if the highest State office is hotly contested.
