Who Goes to Purgatory?
Our Lady of Medjugorje said, “Most souls go to Purgatory, many go to Hell, and only a few go directly to Heaven.” Most souls, falling short of sainthood during their time on earth, will not reach the level of perfection necessary for heaven. And so most of those souls bound for heaven must first be fashioned to perfection in Purgatory. It is through performing our temporal penance that we progress toward perfection while still in the flesh. Thus, another way to say that a soul is imperfect is to say that it has a balance of temporal penance still due for its sins (see indulgences page for explanation of temporal punishment); such souls as these are the ones who go to Purgatory.
