Who gets considered as being homeless or under threat of homelessness?
Homelessness law covers more than rough sleeping. You can be considered as homeless or threatened as homeless if: • You have nowhere to live in the United Kingdom or elsewhere • You are at risk of violence if you remain in, or return to, your home • You have somewhere to stay but it is not reasonable for you to remain there, e.g. following fire, flood, or emergency • You have been given Notice to Quit by your Landlord • You have fallen into arrears on your mortgage or rent and your mortgage lender or landlord is taking you to Court • You have been living with friends or relatives and they have asked you to leave Note: this list is not conclusive, other reasons are considered. Although you may approach with one of these reasons, the Council does not automatically have a duty to assist you, your circumstances will be assessed before a decision will be made.
