Who founded Memories of Love, and why?
Philanthropists Mel Gottlieb and Henri Landwirth co-founded Memories of Love in August of 2005 in loving memory of Mel’s son, Martin Gottlieb, who died at age 32, leaving a wife and two young children behind him. Henri Landwirth, a Holocaust survivor and internationally known philanthropist (see attached bio), lost his parents and his childhood to Nazi terrorism. In 1986, Henri founded Give Kids the World, a magical 51-acre village in Kissimmee, Florida, where terminally ill children and their families spend a week’s respite trip. After 20 years of helping to provide precious memories for over 76,000 families at Give Kids the World, Henri sought help from his friend, Mel Gottlieb, to give this same opportunity to children of critically ill adults. As co-founder of the Foundation, Mel has generously provided office space and technical support to Memories of Love in the Gottlieb Building, which houses Martin Gottlieb and Associates, a medical billing company founded by his late son.
