Who Found The Wreck Of The Titanic?
The wreck of the Titanic was found in 1985 by the oceanographer Robert Ballard. The wreck was discovered in the Atlantic Ocean lying at a depth of 12,500 ft south-east of New Foundland. The major discovery made by Ballard was that he found the ship in two pieces with the bow and the stern sections lying apart at a great distance. It confirmed the beliefs that the Titanic had broken in to two sections before sinking. The ship snapped in to two pieces as the result of the bow getting filled up with water which resulted in the stern getting lifted out of the water with the increasing pressure finally causing the ship to break. Ballard observed that the section which had suffered damage from the iceberg had buried itself in the ocean bottom. Debris from the ship was found strewed on the ocean floor over a large distance. The discovery of the wreck led to several other expeditions being conducted in the later years.
