Who first started tossing around the idea for a single player Counter-Strike game?
Randy: I think the idea of bringing Counter-Strike to a single-player audience was something that the whole of us involved in the franchise knew was essential. I don’t know who came up with the name Condition Zero but the idea of doing it now came from Valve. Our approach to the design came from Gearbox and the development of it is from all groups Valve, Gearbox and the people from the community that we’ve recruited. It’s quite a bold move creating a single-player game from probably the best multi-player game ever created. For the AI to satisfy those used to playing real people, you’ll have to pull something rather special from the hat. Randy: We’ve invested an incredible amount of time and money and resources into artificial intelligence, including recruiting the author of the POD-Bot, which is one of the best Bots available for any first person shooter. We actually went and looked at every single Bot, in commercial products like UT and Quake III Arena and all of the hundred odd Bots
