Who first discovered the wreck of the Titanic?
The wreck was located on September 1, 1985 by a joint American-French expedition led by Jean-Louis Michel and Dr. Robert Ballard of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. It was found at a depth of 3,800 meters, at 4143’55″N 4956’45″W, near Newfoundland. The ship was found to have broken in two large pieces, which lie on the bottom of the ocean a few hundred meters apart, separated by a debris field.
