Who First Discovered Bipolar Disorder?
The term bipolar 2000 years ago was thought to be a climate related condition as people were acting abnormal, and even thought to possess evil spirits. Around 1025 a Persian physician, Avicenna identified schizophrenia, bipolar and mania. Bipolar was first labeled manic depressive. It was not until 1948 that an actual treatment plan for bipolar was developed by Dr. John Cade from Australia.
