Who, exactly, is considered an adult or nontraditional student?
You are an adult student if you are in any one of the following categories: • You are age 25 or over • You are married, divorced, or widowed • You are a parent • You have served in the military • You are not coming to college straight out of high school • You are working full-time or part-time • You are responsible for yourself Most colleges classify adult students as anyone 25 and older. However, any one of the above criteria can complicate the process of entering or returning to college. Even a one year break in the educational experiencecan cause feelings of doubt and uncertainty about one’s ability.
