Who evaluates the Dean?
The Office of the Dean regularly receives questions and comments from faculty on a variety of topics. Last month’s “Faculty Feedback” about new policies regarding required annual evaluations for all faculty elicited a follow-up question. Q: It is great that the evaluation system will be implemented for the performance of individual faculty members and chairpersons. But how are the upper level administrative officers evaluated, including the President, Dean, Vice President and Associate Dean, in order to judge if the school is running efficiently and is on the right track? A: OHSU’s President and “direct reports,” such as Dean Richardson and Vice Presidents, ultimately answer to the OHSU Board of Directors (appointed by the Governor, approved by the Senate; click here for more information on the Board.) The Dean is formally reviewed annually by the Board with input from the President in the context of the achievement of specific performance measures, goals and objectives that are, in tu
