Who evaluates the Commission?
The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities has been listed since 1952 by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency for institutions offering programs of at least one academic year in length at the postsecondary level. Recognition was reaffirmed in July 2008 for a five-year period. The Commission notifies the Department of any changes in the scope of its activities. The Commission is also recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), a non-profit organization of colleges and universities. CHEA recognizes, coordinates, and periodically reviews the work of its recognized accrediting bodies and the appropriateness of existing or proposed accrediting bodies and their activities through its grant of recognition.
