Who engages in hydrocarbon production in the Region today and how successfully?
JSC Tomskneft remains the chief oil-producing company. In 2002-2003, it accounted for 97-99% of oil pumped out from the Region’s subsoil, but now the figure is 14% less. Even so, the company still holds the majority of the distributed fields in the Region. Since Tomskneft became a subsidiary of Russia’s biggest companies – Gazprom and Rosneft, the financing of production development has stabilized. The company is planning to increase oil production from the current 10 million tons to 13 or more million tons. At the same time, Tomskneft is today developing mostly large-scale fields, so we are interested in attracting small and medium-sized companies to develop relatively small fields and to recover oil left in the old fields abandoned by large companies. Companies from the U.K., Cyprus, Sweden and Luxembourg are operating successfully in this niche.
