Software Packager and Universal Installer are Oracle’s new installation technology, starting with Oracle8i and products shipped after. Products currently shipping with Oracle Universal Installer are Oracle8i Server Production (version 8.1.5, for all platforms it is available on) and Oracle Enterprise Manager version 2.0. The intent is in the future to have all Oracle products use the Universal Installer. The Software Packager, the packaging solution, is also used by a number of partners who have evaluated it during the Oracle8iBeta Program and have a need for cross-platform, robust technology.
