It’s been my experience with students that are having a hard time in engineering is that they are not completely understanding the fundamentals. Often they will rely on memorization to get by when it is more important to try to grasp the underlying concepts. Engineering is built on incremental steps of knowledge, if you miss one step you will definitely struggle with what follows. You may want review your earlier courses and make sure you understand the basics thoroughly. Ask a lot of questions of the professors and TAs if you don’t understand something, maybe even a tutor. Keep digging until you are sure you understand the concept fully. You should be able to derive all of the equations from first principles rather than having to memorize them. Try to get a sense of where the teacher is going with regard to how he grades and what he asks on tests.
