Who else is irritated at canned laughter on comedy programmes?
Funny, I was thinking about this the other day. I was sitting on the loo and could hear the TV, as I couldn’t see the picture I was very aware of the canned laughter and what I realised was that it’s the same laughter every time played louder for the ‘very funny bits’ and softer for the ‘not so funny bits’. I wonder who decides where to put the canned laughter in? Just for interest, canned laughter has been in the UK since we first had TV back in the early 50s, then we got rid of it and now it’s coming back again. Whoever decided to bring it back clearly thinks we won’t know when to laugh, or worse, may not find it funny. Personally I hate it, particularly as I rarely laugh where they put the canned laughter (maybe I’ve a warped sense of humour). I’m glad you asked the question ‘cos now I know I’m not the only one put off watching a program because of canned laughter.
