It’s a big question, and one that needs the right answer. Personally, I think it’s a pretty simple choice – step forward Stephen McManus. The departure of Caldwell could prove a lifeline for him. I know there is still plenty of speculation about McManus also leaving the club. For as long as he’s still at Parkhead I believe there remains a chance of him bouncing back. Big Mick has had a really difficult season with injury and lack of form. He has hardly featured in recent weeks, losing the skipper’s armband to Caldwell. For all that, McManus is made of the right stuff and the hurt he’s endured could yet prove a powerful incentive. McManus has been a successful captain. He knows what it takes to wear the armband. It’s such a special honour to be made Celtic skipper. I cherished every game when I led the team out and it was a magnificent feeling.
