Difficult question to answer without a few guidelines but I’ll toss my opinion into the proverbial hat. While Pete is highly regarded as the best in history, even his career has a hole, namely the French Open. But if the criteria were number of slams, then Sampras would be the clear winner. Personally, if I were considering ALL factors including off-court investment back into the game, I’d have to go with Andre Agassi. His game was suited to every surface, his record in Davis Cup and the Olympics are well documented, his career spanned 20 years and you’d be hard pressed to find a more colorful personality from young rebellious teen to stately ambassador than what he brought to the game. Many would contest McEnroe to be a more colorful personality but I would offer that his demeanor generally went one direction…outbursts of frustration.
