Who do we talk to for academic advising? When is the best time to seek advising?

Ans: Advising is done yearly in groups. It is VERY important that students come to “new student orientation and advising” (usually in August, all new students will receive a letter inviting them) and once in the program attend the “returning student advising” (usually in March/April, you will receive an email inviting you). At that time the whole program is described and you will meet with the Program Director (at this time the Program Coordinator/secretary will note this in your file). There is no day-to-day individual advising, it is done in these group meetings. If something changes following the advising session then you should contact the program coordinator if s/he cannot help you s/he will THEN direct you to contact the program director. The program director is responsible for more than 300 students so s/he cannot meet with every student regularly. As a graduate student the monitoring of your program and keeping your file in order is primarily your responsibility.
