Who Do Nigerian Leaders Fear: God, Devils Or Citizens?
By John Agbonifo WHETHER or not leaders fear God or citizens is critical to development, particularly the developmental salvation of Nigeria from forces many perceptive Nigerians now routinely refer to as “principalities and powers”. Western teleology has often fed through the half, but misleading, truth that development is the evolutionary movement of society from a lower to higher and better stage, a reed which roguish and/or ignorant politicians cease upon to urge patience with the failings of the ruling elite. It is a claim lacking empirical basis in history that the West developed as a result of the ineluctable process of evolution or the people orientation of western leaders. This is why I laugh when intelligent Nigerians provide leaders the benefit of the doubt by alluding to the supposedly good nature of Musa Yar’Adua.
