Who Do I Solve A Problem Asking A Rate Of Change?

A Rate of Change means change over time. So you will be creating a fraction, in the denominator will be your change in time. If they say the change happened in 2 minutes that is easier because all you have to put in the denominator is 2 (remember those units you will need it at the end of the problem for your answer!). If they say the change happened between 10:00am and 11:30am then you will have to subtract the earlier time from the later (in this case 1½ hrs). Then for the numerator will be what is changing (again remember your units for the final answer at the end!!) eg (for example) the number of miles driven, the number of apples eaten, the amount of water that came out of a hose. So if you had 10 apples at 10:00am and you have 5 apples at 11:30am then you ate (10 – 5)/(11:30 – 10:00) or 5 apples in 1½ hours. To get that so it is apples per hour divide 5 by 1½ and you get 3.333 apples per hour. I hope this helps I know it sounds hard.
