Who do I contact if a student either cheats on an examination or has plagiarized a paper?
Central Michigan University has a strict code with respect to academic dishonesty. It is located in the University Bulletin in Appendix II. Academic dishonesty is a very serious issue. Document everything carefully and consult with your department chair if you judge a student guilty of academic dishonesty. Even if you do decide to “handle” the incident yourself, still consult with your department chair. In addition to discussing the issue with your department chair, you should also consider discussing the issue with the Director of the Office of Student Life. The Director of the Office of Student Life can be reached at (x3016). Other helpful resources for dealing with academic dishonesty would be the College of Graduate Studies and, for plagarism issues dealing with research, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP).
