Who Discovered Quartz?

There is really no way to know who actually discovered quartz for the first time. Quartz has always been around and was written about as far back as the time of the Romans. However, brothers Jacques and Pierre Curie in 1880 were the first to discover that certain types of quartz produced electricity when placed under pressure. We have them to thank for what we know as quartz crystal watches.
