(MYFOX NATIONAL) – A flying frog, the world’s smallest deer and a new monkey species are among 353 new species found in the Eastern Himalayas according to a new report by WWF International . The report warns that climate change is endangering the region. The “flying” frog is a bright green frog (Rhacophorus suffry) and “flies” by using its red and long webbed feet to glide in the air. The frog is found only in five specific, swampy locations in the region. A miniature muntjac called the “leaf deer” (Muntiacus putaoensis) was discovered to be the world’s oldest and smallest deer species. Scientists initially believed the small creature was a juvenile of another species but DNA tests confirmed the light brown animal with dark eyes was a distinct and new species. A new species of primates, known by local people as “a deep-forest monkey,” was also discovered.
