Who Did Rocky Fight In Part 4?
In Rocky 4, Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) fought the Soviet Russian army Captain and boxer Ivan Drago (also known as the Siberian Express in the film), played by the Swedish national karate champion and actor Dolph Lungren. Rocky 4 which was released in 1985, expresses the state of the cold war at the time. When his former opponent and now close friend Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers) is killed fighting the ‘cold machine’ of the Soviet in the guise of Drago, then Rocky Balbao feels he must fight him. Of course Rocky wins, but the film is a blatant piece of Americanist propaganda. Drago and the Soviets can only win by technological advantage and the use of performance enhancers, to further exploit the idea of the Soviets as the bad guys, they make him fight in Moscow in the USSR on Christmas Day! When Rocky wins, he makes a moving (bowel?) speech about the two countries being friends.
