Who determines how much business tax is collected?
City Council determines the budget requirements in December of each year to generate revenue for providing services to our citizens. The shifting of Business Tax Revenues to the Non-Residential category was approved by City Council in May 2007. The amount shifted annually will fluctuate in accordance with the balance of business tax during the four year phase out of the program. The business tax revenue will be shifted to all non-residential properties including: Linear property, Vacant land, Federal and Provincial properties previously not paying any business taxes.
