Who designed the new planters in the Quad?

A. A bit of history for first: two large trees were removed from the lunch area about three years ago. This summer, the District fulfilled a promise to construct planters in the areas where the trees had been. These planters were designed by the District to resist the destructive forces of skateboarding. Similar planters are located at other schools around the District, including North Davis Elementary. The sides of the planters were left rough to allow us to mount student made mosaics on them. Small ornamental trees will soon be planted, as will flowers. While these planters do present a new obstacle for our students to negotiate around (rather than over or through), we hope that the improved aesthetics will be pleasing to everyone.
