Who designed the medal for the first Youth Olympic Games (YOG), and what does it look like?

For the Singapore 2010 YOG, an online competition was launched to design the obverse of the medal. The aim was to “profit from the creativity and imagination of the youth of the world”. (S. Bubka) The competition was won by Setsuko Fukuzawa (Canada), with a creation entitled “Yes, Youth Can”. Setsuko had the idea of using the “Y” to symbolise both victory and youth, thus providing a contemporary image of the Greek goddess of victory, “Nike”. The reverse of the medal represents the dynamism of the city and state of Singapore.
