Who designed the art on the dollar bill?
The short answer is the US Treasury. The US dollar bill has numerous pieces of ‘art’ on it, from the Great Seal of the US, to George Washington and other parts. The Great Seal has no definitive attribution, but some drafts have been attributed to William Barton and Charles Thomson for the front and back (respectively). The George Washington portrait was originally painted by Gilbert Stuart. However, it is the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (which is part of the Treasury Department) that manages the final design and printing of the dollar.
