Who designates IBAs?
IBAs are the result of the combined efforts of citizen scientists (birders) and ornithological experts. Citizen scientists play a key role in identifying IBAs by nominating sites for designation. Nomination forms are available through your local Audubon chapter. Nomination forms are reviewed by the state technical committee (a panel of ornithological and scientific experts), who access whether the area meets scientific criteria or not. If it does, the area is designated an IBA.
