Who deserves the blame for the recent corporate scandals?
According to a recent Harris Poll: – 90% of Americans blame the dishonesty and the greed of many corporate executives. – 78% blame the greed and dishonesty of many auditors and accountants. – 72% blame government regulators for failing to enforce existing rules. – 67% blame the absence of appropriate laws to make such behavior illegal. – 30% blame President Bush and his administration. A recent Wall Street Journal poll finds that 61% of Americans believe the current corporate scandals are “a widespread problem in which many business executives are taking advantage of a system that is failing.” Meanwhile, just 33% think that it is “a few corrupt individuals in a system that is mostly honest and above board.” THIS WEEK’S ACTION ITEMS 1) Members of Congress will be back in their home districts for the month of August.
