Who decides which animals must be euthanized?
Euthanasia decisions are determined based upon medical reasons, behavioral reasons or a combination of the two. Medical decisions are made within the veterinary department of each shelter and under the direction of a veterinarian. Behavioral decisions are made by the euthanasia committees that have been established in each of our shelter locations. Euthanasia of pets will occur only after a good faith effort has been made to place the animal with another rescue group specializing in placing pets that are not adoptable through the Connecticut Humane Society program.
