Who decides when to pronounce somebody dead and stop resuscitation efforts?
A doctor who works closely with paramedics consults with them while resuscitation efforts are still underway to suggest other measures and to make sure that everything has been done properly in the attempts to save the life. The doctor can order the paramedics to bring the patient into the hospital or the physician can pronounce the person dead if he or she feels that everything that would have been done for the patient in the hospital has been tried in the field.
