Who decides what area is included in each state representatives legislative district?
This process is known as “reapportionment”—or “redistricting”—and it occurs every 10 years following each federal census. A bill containing the new legislative district maps—100 districts for the House and 50 districts for the Senate—must be adopted by both the Indiana Senate and the Indiana House of Representatives. This bill goes to the governor, just like any other piece of legislation. This legislation defines and outlines the new maps for Indiana’s congressional districts.
