Who deals with intaxed vehicles which are not abandoned?
DVLA is responsible for the collection of the vehicle tax and has the necessary legal powers to deal with those owners / keepers who do not register and tax their vehicles. The Council operates a service to investigate alleged abandoned vehicles and, if appropriate, to arrange for their removal and disposal. This process is carried out under the authority of the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978. A vehicle that is deemed to be abandoned, depending on circumstances, will be issued with a notice giving the owner a specific time period in which to claim ownership. Following that period, the vehicle will be removed to storage and subsequent disposal.
