Who deals with complaints against the Police?
If you are unhappy with the police you may contact the Officer in Charge of your local Police Station, theDivisional Commander or a Police Board member. Complaints are taken seriously and your complaint will be acknowledged. Allegations against police officers are dealt with by Lothian and Borders Police Complaints and Conduct Department, which works closely with the Procurator Fiscal. The Police Board has its own Complaints Sub- Committee which actively scrutinises the handling of complaints against police officers. Complaints against senior police officers ( the rank of Assistant Chief Constable and above ) are dealt with by the Police Board. HM Inspectorate of Constabulary has an independent role, reviewing the manner in which complaints have been dealt with by the Force .
