Who created the Ulrichs Subject Headings?
Ulrich’s subject headings were originally created by librarians. The use of these proprietary headings has been in place since the early days, when Carolyn Ulrich, Head of Periodicals at the New York Public Library, first compiled her ” Periodicals Directory: A Classified Guide to a Selected List of Current Periodicals Foreign and Domestic ” in 1932. The Ulrich’s subject headings have been added to, modified, and updated by Ulrich’s editorial teams (which include librarians) over the years to ensure that Ulrich’s subjects keep pace with users’ serials information needs.
