The Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999 introduced important new controls aimed at reducing and preventing pollution from a wide range of industries. Industries which have the potential to discharge polluting substances to air, land, water (known as Part A activities) are regulated/permitted by the Environment Agency. Other industries such as coating processes, cement batching, foundries etc (known as Part B activity) are regulated/permitted by the Local Authorities for air pollution control only.
