Who coaches boxing?
The head coach of the team is Doug Bickford (934-6857). Doug boxed from 1969 to 1988. He fought in the New England Golden Gloves Tournament in 1969, 1970, 1971, and 1985. He earned runner-up honors in 1969 and 1970. He also won the Maine State Tournament as a middleweight in 1976. He encourages interested students and parents to call him with any questions they may have. Should I be worried about getting hurt? No. In our first year, we had roughly twenty members. Over a four-month span, we have not had a single injury. Our only health concern has been the occasional bloody nose. In these cases, the match is stopped immediately so that bleeding does not continue and the blood can be dealt with in a medically appropriate manner. Boxing club members train and spar under the direct supervision of Mr. Bickford, who is trained in first aid.
