Who can use HMSA’s Online Care and how is it controlled? Do the provider and patient have to be physically in the state of Hawaii?
Only HMSA credentialed providers are eligible to register for HMSA’s Online Care. To enroll in Online Care, each provider is required to validate their identity by entering their unique user identification numbers. Once the system validates the provider, they create a username and password to access Online Care. HMSA members and nonmembers who register in the system and accept the terms and conditions of the Patient User Agreement may access the system via unique user identification numbers and passwords. The agreements require that both the provider and the patient physically be in the state. The patient must also be a Hawaii resident. In addition, the system will validate that the billing address of the credit card used to process payments for the conversations is a Hawaii address.
