Who can tell me about social workers?

R.Gaspari is disgustingly wrong. Social Work can be divided into two fields. Social service (much as what R described only he doesnt see the benefit in knowing HOW to help someone) The other field is direct clinical practice. Clinical social workers typically work as therapists. Opposed to what R. Gaspari says, Social Workers are the ONLY ones in mental health field that are trained for therapy. Clinical Psychologist are trained in testing i.e. ink blot, thematic perception tests etc. Should a psychologist want to be a therapist they must attend post graduate courses to do so. Psychiatrist can only legally prescribe meds. They are NOT trained for therapy. I hope this helps clear you up, and that you realize social work is a fulfilling and important field. Social workers can be legal advocates, therapists, marriage counselors, crisis intervention the list goes on and on. Again. Gaspari seems awfully bitter and is likely a psych student stuck in university with no way to get out.
