Who can ride a Segway ? Are Segways safe for children or people with disabilities?

We own a couple Segways. They must be learned to be safe. More difficult than it looks, but a lot of fun. You have to balance carefully and look before you glide anywhere. The ground should be dry and flat and smooth (as much as possible). It feels like flying. It’s wonderful. It’s terrifying. We use them to commute to & from work along a major commute route, so have lots of traffic to deal with. Most folks are nice, but a few don’t look or don’t care, and a couple just hate you (I’ve no idea why).
We are just trying to have fun and use a clean way to work– no pollution, no gasoline, no noise pollution, etc. So, not safe for any rider less than 110 pounds or over 250 pounds, or one with poor vision who could not detect changes to the surface of the glide area/ground. Could work for people with disabilities, based on what the disability is, so can’t say safe or not without more info on the rider.  Best wishes. Just use your common sense.

Riding a Segway is similar to riding a bikeit’s intuitive but nobody is born knowing how to operate it. That’s why we offer 15 – 25 minutes of training so you can get familiar with the device. A Segway is not an ideal mode of touring for people with some mobility issues. All guests must be able to easily and quickly step on and off the Segway without any assistance, which requires physical abilities similar to climbing and descending stairs without assistance or use of a handrail. We will practice on the Segways until everyone feels comfortable and ready to tour The Sacramento River Trail and McConnell Arboretum. Tour Rider Requirements – The Segway Tour has only a few restrictions. Riders must: Be 16 years of age and up, guests under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. (If you are concerned about mobility issues Please call us to discuss. We want every rider to have a safe tour.
