Who can purchase and use rotenone to remove fish from private ponds?
Rotenone, labeled as a fish toxicant and sold under several brand names, is a restricted use pesticide. Dealers must be specifically registered to sell this product. Dealer requirements include record-keeping and sale only to certified users. The product can only be sold to and used by certified applicators with approval under a license for Category 5: Aquatic Pest Control in private or public waters. Farmers or other landowners who are certified for use of other restricted products would not automatically have this approval.
