Who can operate a motorized bicycle (scooter under 50 ccs)?
• Anyone possessing a valid driver’s license. • Any person that has obtained a motorized bicycle operator’s permit or motorized bicycle instruction permit from the Commissioner of Public Safety. Operator’s permits may be issued to any person 15 years of age and who has passed the permit exam. • An operator of a motorized scooter cannot carry anyone but the operator (except when operator is 15 years of age and operating under a two-wheel instruction permit, a parent or guardian may ride as a passenger if the bicycle is equipped with a seat and footrests for a second passenger). • A helmet is required by anyone operating a motorized scooter under the age of 18.
