Who Can Claim Child Tax Credit?

0

To qualify for CTC, you must: • be aged 16 or over, and • be responsible for a dependent child or young person, and • not have an income of more than £58,000 a year, and • not be subject to immigration control (except in certain cases) It does not matter whether you are in work (full or part time), out of work, a student, a student nurse or on strike. Essentially the criteria are that you are looking after a child or young person and your income is not too high. S/he does not have to be your own child; you could be a relative or friend, but for whatever reason you are the person aged over 16 with whom the child normally lives. If you are under 16 and have a dependent child, then someone else aged over 16 has to claim CTC both for you and your child. Once you are 16 you can claim yourself.
