Who can borrow a Stafford loan?
• You have financial need as certified by the educational institution. (Subsidized Stafford loan only) • You are a United States citizen or national. If you have a visa, you may still be eligible to receive a loan if you intend to become a permanent resident. • You are enrolled on at least a half-time basis at an “eligible institution” and you are maintaining satisfactory progress as determined by your institution. • You are not in default on a federal student loan. • You do not owe a refund on a Title IV Grant, or are not in default on a Perkins loan, that was received for attendance at the same school, unless satisfactory arrangements to repay or adjust the grant or loan have been made.
